The

was founded on 1st November, 1987 and organized on 28th August, 1988.
The
church was built by M. A. Kaka in the year 1950s and named Baptist Teacher
College Chapel. The chapel has been headed by the following leaders; Late
Taiwo, Late Akinpelu, Late Ayodele and Pa Adetona being the last leader. The
chapel was closed due to the relocation of Baptist College to Iwo.
After
some years, on November 1, 1987 the whole congregation of the First Baptist
Church, Oke Apaso Ede came to the chapel to worship with the intention of
turning it to a church, based on the bad information heard about the usage of
the chapel by the Corps members that were using the place at that time. They
used it as cinema house which does not give glory to God, but unfortunately the
information received from the General Secretary of Nigerian Baptist Convention
then, Rev’d Dr, S. T. Ola Akande was not encouraging hence they left the place.
On
August 28, 1988. The church (College Baptist Church) was re-organized and
started under the leadership of Mr. O. Adetona who was the last leader of the
chapel before the College was moved to Iwo. He was appointed by the executives
of First Baptist Church Ede. The following are the families and individuals that
started the church; Pa D. O. Adisa Family, Pa E. A. Akinwumi family, Mama
Adeola, Pa Adetona family, Pa Oyekola Family, Bro. Ayo Fala, Bro Deboye Fala,
Bro Tunji Ogunbitan etc. because of the pronouncement that any member
of the First Baptist church that are living close to the new church (College
Baptist Church) should please be going there for their worship. The following
also joined them later; Pa Adeniji Family, Pa Akande Family, Pa Akanni Family,
Pa Ogungbile Family, Pa Adesola Ogunjide Family, Mama D.T. Akande, Mama Emily
Adepeju, etc.
Pa
Adetona headed the church till 1991, Revd Fajinmi (Rtd) was employed to come
and be pastoring the church after his retirement and he works there till January
26 1992 when Dn. S. A. Alabi was appointed to take over the leadership of the
church on Rev’d Fajinmi request. Dn S. A. Alabi insisted that the church has to
have a pastor and Rev’d Yakubu was appointed and he works for some year before
Mr. Adeniji headed the church and Rev’d Daniel Olawale was employed in the year
2001.
During
Dn. Alabi S. A. (Late) fence was constructed but demolished by Federal
polytechnic and rebuilt another one with the approval of the church. Rev’d A. A.
Yakubu tenure was remembered for the shopping complex, which was initiated and
the foundation was made with some blocks. The Wedding Certificate was also acquired.
Under
the leadership of the present pastor; Rev’d D. O. Olawale; the shop initiated
was constructed and put into use. The children church was initiated and later divided
into two, one part was built for the sunbeam and some blocks were laid on the second
one. A well was dug and covered for the use. Befitting toilet was also built
and new mission house was started and the work is still in progress. The church
was renamed from College Baptist Church to Christ Baptist Church.
The
church population is on the average of 120 and it has different departments and
units like; sunbeam, Royal Ambassador, Girl Auxiliary, Lydia Cycle, Men
Missionary Union, Women Missionary Union, Education department, Evangelism
Unit, etc.
